We are excited to announce that our workshop, “Exploring Educational Podcasts with AI,” has been selected for presentation at EdMedia 2025. As a great international conference on innovation in education, EdMedia brings together researchers, practitioners and thought leaders from over 70 countries to share insights on the future of teaching and learning.
This year’s conference will be held at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya in Barcelona, and we are honoured to contribute to the programme as part of the Special Interest Group (SIG) on Emerging Technologies for Learning and Teaching.
About the Workshop
Exploring Educational Podcasts with AI
Track: Special Interest Group – Emerging Technologies for Learning and Teaching
In this interactive workshop, we will introduce aicast, an open-source platform designed to support the creation of educational podcasts through a hybrid approach. The platform combines:
- AI-generated elements, powered by large language models (e.g., ChatGPT), for personalized content authoring
- Instructor-defined structures and content to ensure pedagogical soundness and reduce risks associated with AI-generated material, such as hallucinations
- High-quality real-time voice synthesis, integrated through ElevenLabs, enabling rapid production of educational audio content
Following a brief demonstration and hands-on segment, participants will engage in a structured discussion around key questions:
- What is the core of an educational podcast?
- How do structure, tone, and repetition influence learning outcomes?
- From the perspective of instructional design, how should educational podcasts be conceptualized and implemented?
This session aims to provide both a practical introduction to AI-enhanced audio learning and a critical space for reflection on the evolving role of AI in digital education.
